What the Earth Can Teach Us About Purpose and Resilience
Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to attend a Luma Retreat led by the brilliant Fabi Cordaro and Kendall Goddard. It was my first time attending an intimate spiritual immersion, held in the sensational Sedona—a spiritual mecca nestled among the red rocks, known globally for its powerful energy vortices. I learned so much on this retreat, from what it means to believe in and follow your spiritual energies to what the true definition of grounding, intention, and alignment really feels like.
I also gained a new perspective on energy and the earth, and I thought I’d share some of those with you. We don’t often think about it, but the energy of the earth and the universe is woven into every part of our lives. The sun doesn’t just warm our skin—it drives our sleep rhythms, fuels every plant we eat, and even shapes the minerals in the soil. Those minerals—calcium, magnesium, iron, copper—become the very building blocks of our bodies, as we explored in this month’s Summit Session. The moon, too, pulls the tides, influencing water, food, and even renewable energy. So it makes sense that those same energies would also impact how creatures of the earth, including humans, behave and think.
Standing at the base of Sedona’s Red Rocks, I felt that truth in a new way. Their size and stillness humbled me. Nature doesn’t force its way forward—it simply grows where it’s rooted. Meanwhile, we humans often muscle through life, chasing the path we think we “should” live. Those rocks reminded me: resilience isn’t about force. It’s about grounding, alignment, and trusting that our higher source has a plan—that we’ll grow to the size we’re meant to, at the time we’re supposed to, with the purpose we are meant to fulfill.
That’s where the chakra system comes in. Rooting begins with the depths of the earth, but the whole system is about channeling energy from the ground up through the body and then out into the universe. The root chakra grounds us in safety and stability, pulling energy upward like water through a tree. Along the way, each chakra offers guidance: creativity in the sacral, confidence in the solar plexus, compassion in the heart, intuition in the third eye. By the time energy reaches the crown, we’re connected not just to ourselves, but to the universe itself. I love this because it means we are not just living for ourselves—we’re living for others, with a purpose to give back to the universe.
So my message this month is to encourage you to think about other ways to find your purpose or renew your inspiration by grounding yourself with intention. Walk barefoot in the grass. Try slow, intentional breathing to help you refocus your chakras and nervous system. Dig in the garden to connect with the nutrients that fuel our bodies and minds. Move your body—through yoga, dance, tai chi, or even lifting weights—to express what you’re feeling or to stimulate a higher vibration. Whatever you choose, do it with intention. Because when you connect with the earth, you reconnect with yourself—and that’s where true resilience and alignment begin.
