From Sweet Success to Surrender
Join Hang on Health and The Sapphire Suite, a business center in Cool Springs, on May 6 for an engaging and heartfelt conversation with Brooke O’Dell, founder and Chief Sugar Officer of SugarDrop, about the emotional realities of entrepreneurship. You’ll hear personal stories from business owners who’ve faced overwhelming challenges—financial, emotional, and everything in between—and what it really takes to keep going when the path gets rocky.
From the grief of closing a chapter to the identity shifts that come with stepping away from a business, Brooke will share what she's learned about resilience, purpose, and the surprising ways passion can still bring light in the darkest moments.
This conversation isn’t meant to discourage entrepreneurs—it’s meant to ground them. To remind us all that behind every brand is a human story, and that even when things fall apart, the journey isn’t over.

About Brooke O’Dell:
Sugar is in my blood — it’s what I know best.
I’ve been a dreamer from the beginning, and my love affair with the art of confections began when my oldest child was born. Since then, buttercream, fondant, and whimsy have become the tools of my decadent trade — once described as a “renaissance woman” in the world of sweets.
In early 2017, I purchased Sugar Drop, a beloved Tennessee-based business with over 50 years of history. After revitalizing the brand, I relocated the shop in 2020 to a larger, magical space featuring glitter floors, candy chandeliers, a full-service bakery, sweet-inspired retail, and a stunning event venue. It became a one-stop destination where I hosted and taught thousands the art of sugar.
After seven unforgettable years, I hung up my apron. Running a physical retail business is no small feat, but the friendships and community we built were the sweetest rewards of all.
So what comes after selling sugar by the pound and dreams by the slice? Today, I consult with small businesses, offering support in marketing, sales, operations, and brand growth. I’m also a food writer for The Williamson Scene, where I share stories as She Who Feasts.
While my cake pans may be retired, my passion for creativity is not. I continue to work on personal projects and share my journey online, hoping to inspire others to create boldly and live sweetly.
